Ernie was a lifelong resident of Warrick County. He was born in Evansville, Indiana and raised in Chandler, Indiana. He was a US Army Veteran serving in Vietnam where he received the Army Commendation with Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star Medals. Ernie retired in 2014 from Stone Container where he was a sales representative for 32 years and a multi-year President’s Club member. He was a member of Rolling Hills Country Club since 1992, where he served on the Board of Directors and as a past President in 2002; American Legion Kapperman Post #44 in Newburgh; VFW in Boonville; and secretary for the Old Hickory Homeowners Association. Ernie graduated from Castle High School in 1968. He received a BS degree from Indiana State University of Evansville in 1974 and a MBA degree from the University of Evansville in 1980. He was of Baptist Faith. He loved traveling, golf, fine bourbon and spending time in his back yard with his wife and his beloved dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Alpha Cissna; and brothers, Keith Jones and Fred Jones.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 32 years, Jennifer (Pirkle) Jones; sister, Martha Lett (James); brothers: Carl Jones (Wanda), Gordon Jones and Lloyd Jones (Sandy); sister-in-law, Penne (Pirkle) Gambrall (David); faithful dogs, Bailey and Bentley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Pastor Randy Moore, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by Kapperman Post #44. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
