Donnie Hoyt Cotton,Sr., 82, of Newburgh, Indiana passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Woodmont Health Campus. He was born on September 2, 1941, in Dawson Springs, Kentucky to the late Norris and Eva Geneva (Carlton) Cotton.
Donnie moved to Newburgh at the age of three. He enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing with his dad as a child. Donnie met his wife, Glennis in 1954 and they were married March 28, 1959. He is a graduate of North High School. He attended Garvinwood General Baptist Church for over 65 years. He worked for Indiana Bell, later known as Ameritech for 44 years. He was a former member of Lessing Lodge in Evansville, Newburgh chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and a Grand Helper for Indiana Rainbow Girls. Donnie enjoyed watching his son race 3-wheelers and grandsons race motorcycles and go-carts. He also enjoyed many fishing trips visiting his son in Alaska.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Glennis of almost 65 years; daughters, Kaye Byard (Dwight) and Amanda Newlin (Mike); son, Donnie Cotton Jr. (Liz); grandchildren, Brent Williams II, Chet Williams, Makayla Smith (Todd), Brittany Byard (Andrew), Hope Johnson and Will Johnson; step-grandchildren Alissa Newlin, Alec Newlin (Rashia) and Aaron Newlin; great grandchildren, Jared, Kolsen, Briella, AJ, and Asher; sister, Martha Singer; and brother, Norris Michael Cotton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Majors and son-in-law, Brent Williams.
Friends may visit from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the funeral home officiated by Mark Embry followed by his final resting place at Alexander Memorial Park, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, Evansville, IN.
