“Jolie” Yee Lam Li (李依霖), lover of life and eternal optimist, passed away May 25th, 2022 in her adopted hometown of New York City at the age of 49. She is survived by adoring husband Malcolm Fan, devoted father Fai Lam Li (李輝林) and mother Chiu Cheung Leung (梁肖章), brother Allison Li (李志明) and his wife Shirley Ngai (魏佩華), sister Becky Li (李秀儀) and her husband Patrick Chan (陳明偉), sister Kennis Li (李愛儀) and her husband Wong Ko Fung (黃高峰), brother Terry Li (李志強) and his wife Shi Dan Xu (許世丹), and sister Stacey Li (李巧儀) and husband Ryan Li (李凱邦).
Jolie was born October 13th, 1972 in Hong Kong. She earned her bachelor's degree in marketing from Iowa State University, finishing in just 2.5 years. She later graduated with a Masters of Business Administration from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2015. She had a long career in marketing and sales primarily in publishing, including stints at Scholastic, Newsweek and Luxe City Guides.
Jolie was the third child of the Li family. She always strived to give support and share her valuable advice to her family members or friends. She always had a positive mindset which she saw every challenge as an opportunity. With her pleasant character, the Li family had lots of happy moments during family gatherings. She also became a dog lover after Stacey brought home a new family member, BenBen the corgi, in 2005.
Malcolm met Jolie on September 4th, 2010 in Hong Kong on his 3rd day in the city. They married on September 29th, 2013 on their 3rd anniversary and moved to New York in 2016 to chase their dreams.
Her friend, Mandy Lee, said of Jolie, “Her genuine character earns genuine friends throughout her life and everywhere she goes.” Jolie had a vast and varied collection of friends. Her kindness and generosity, playfulness, optimism and zest for life, charmed many. People were drawn to her statuesque appearance, sparkling smile and engaging demeanor. She could enter a room, and after chatting with everyone there, would walk out with an abundance of new friends.
Novel ideas intrigued Jolie, and she was open to new ways to improve life through nutrition, health and lifestyle. Perhaps this is why Jolie relished traveling - it presented unlimited opportunities to learn and grow. She traveled to Thailand , various islands in The Philippines, London, Maastricht, Amsterdam, Sweden, Dubai, China, Taipei, Canada, the Caribbean, Bali, Australia, Vietnam and visited more states during her undergrad years than most Americans do in their lifetime. On these trips, sometimes the simplest pleasures, like relaxing by the pool or on the beach, tasting local delicacies, or spending time with old friends, were all Jolie needed to be happy. She also developed an interest in museums and sightseeing. Her desire to connect to others followed her on these adventures. Once, on a trip to Cape Town, South Africa, she met an elderly woman on the street, and that woman instantly became her tour guide for the day.
A memorial charity fund has been created with Mount Sinai Hospital, who took extraordinary and compassionate care of her during her illness. http://giving.mountsinai.org/goto/IHOJolie
