Susan was born on January 8, 1943 in New York, NY to Ralph and Gilda Herson. She grew up in Mamaroneck, NY and graduated in 1964 from Connecticut College with a Bachelors of Arts in French. After college, she worked as a nursery school teacher and then spent the majority of her professional career as an executive assistant, including work at the National Broadcasting Company and Culbro Corporation. Susan devoted much of her time to volunteer work, with significant contributions to fundraising efforts and event planning for the Red Cross. In addition, Susan was an accomplished artist, skilled in both painting and sculpture, and also enjoyed knitting and playing the piano.
Her proudest achievements were raising her two daughters, Robin and Debbie. Susan loved her daughters deeply and would rarely miss a chance to talk to people about them. Susan and Debbie enjoyed travelling together at home and abroad and she often spent time visiting Robin and her family in Massachusetts and in Maine. She was a doting and devoted grandmother who relished attending her three grandchildren’s dance recitals, school plays, and sports games. She also adored her two dogs, Molly and Gigi. Susan made everyone smile and she lit up every room. She was elegant, funny, and loving and meant so much to so many people. We will always hold her in our hearts.
Susan is survived by daughters Robin and Debbie Silverman, her brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Caryl Herson, her son-in-law Harry Keates, and her three grandchildren, Emma, Noah, and Jonah Keates.
