Dr. Serge Francois was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather to many, friend to all and a medical doctor. He loved to learn and always said that you could learn something new every day. He taught himself to speak five languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, English and German) because he was an avid reader and genuinely curious about other cultures. He always stressed the importance of self-reliance and hard work. He was a generous person as often provided free health care to the indigent and undocumented and gave money to friends or strangers to help support their children's education. He was passionate about Haitian studies and collected many books on Haiti during his lifetime, which are being donated to the Haitian Studies Department at the University of Kansas where a scholarship has been set up in his name.
"In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to The Kansas University Endowment Association with a note that the donation is to fund the Dr. Serge Francois Student Opportunity Fund in Haitian Studies. Please mail to P.O. Box 928, Lawrence, KS, 66044."
