Roland E White

Born January 12th, 1933. Passed October 12th, 2022, at the age of 89. He was married to Marie Merritt, and predeceased by six brothers and sisters, Alma V. White, Glenna Y. White, Norma R. Cross, Wanda A. Metterman, Cecil G. White, and Marvin O. White. The proud progeny of Elizabeth and Cecil White. He leaves behind his wife Marie, two sons and a daughter from a previous marriage, Roland White Jr., Curtis White, and Holly White (Deceased). He will be missed by his wife Marie and his nieces and nephews, Lori Cross-Hudson, Gail Cross, Tanya Williams (Deceased), Charles White, Aram White, our cousin Reggie (Deceased), Marvin E. White, Deborah L. White, Franklin white, and Nikki Metterman. Also their husbands, wives, and a host of great nieces, great nephews, and great greats.

He was well loved by his wife Marie, and respected by his neighbors and friends, the staff that knew and cared for him at the Isabella Nursing Home, and Roland's church buddy Teresa McGourty.

Roland was educated at Boys High in Brooklyn. Not afraid of hard work, he spent time as a longshoreman on the Brooklyn docks long before container ships were invented. Hand trucks and hand hooks were de rigueur for the day and night. Returning to his Alma Mater as a teacher, he became a celebrated educator and later a beloved counselor, then Dean of Students of what became Boys and Girls High. He mentored many students who kept in touch with him.

Through the years of his retirement, he and his wife Marie were world travelers. They walked on the Great Wall of China. They toured the Yellow and Yangtze rivers in China. They spent time in Israel and saw the Wailing Wall. They toured Iceland and many other countries.

He loved photography and was never without a camera. He enjoyed hunting, target shooting, and his country house in Pennsylvania. He was also a supreme techie, immersing himself in everything laptop tablet smartphone, and iPad.

He had an extensive music collection, enjoyed jazz clubs and a good joke. His laughter would resound through the room. He enjoyed a smooth scotch. He loved the steam paddle boats that ply the Mississippi River. He enjoyed life to its fullest.
