Dr. Robert Mead Quackenbush passed away peacefully on May 17, 2021. Robert was, and is, truly extraordinary. He celebrated the gift of life daily and found joy in every single moment. Robert exuded vibrance, charm and kindness in each interaction and was truly present with others in any moment he shared with you. Robert was an acclaimed children’s book illustrator and author. He was also a psychotherapist and his commitment to, and skill for, the arts, literacy and mental health has left a lasting impact on many, many lives.
Robert was devoted to his family and was an adoring husband to his wife Margery (Clouser) of 50 years, his son, Piet Robert, daughter-in-law, Teresa, and his grandchildren, Aidan Pieter and Emma Anne. Robert was the epitome of an Opa and his love for Aidan and Emma was endless. His playful spirit of inventing characters and doing art together will forever be a cherished memory.
Robert was truly dedicated to living a purpose-driven life and was an example of integrity, grace, courage, kindness and simplicity...with a keen sense of humor. Although he authored and illustrated over 200 children's books, gave so much service by traveling the world to share his art and literacy with others, Robert continually encouraged himself and others to always learn new things. Mostly, Robert was an example to always appreciate what is right in front of you.
It's incredibly difficult to find the words to capture what our husband, Dad and Opa embodied and will always mean to us. He was also the most humble man, so he would not want much more said other than please make the most of all the moments today and tomorrow.
We love you endlessly, Robert, Dad and Opa.
We encourage everyone to celebrate Robert’s love of art, invention and creativity by visiting his website:
