Patricia Doran Dillon died at home in New York City in the early morning of November 25, 2022. Patricia was the youngest of three daughters born to Anastasia Aylward Doran and John Doran of Brooklyn, NY. After graduating from Catherine McAuley High School, she joined Batten Barton Durstine & Osborne (BBDO), a distinguished Madison Avenue advertising firm.
When her married sister, Kathleen Doran Rogers, was widowed, she returned to the Doran family home with her two young children. Patricia was living with her mother at the time. Both Tom Rogers and Patricia Rogers were joyfully welcomed in the family and created a special bond with “Aunt Pat.” Similarly the children of her sister Peggy Gorman living nearby in their growing up years were cherished by Aunt Pat.
In 1965 Patricia married Thomas C. Dillon, then President of BBDO, and took on the responsibilities of stepmother to Tom’s three children, Tad, Vicki, and George. Tom predeceased Patricia in 1986. Step-children Vicky Dillon and her brother George Dillon (Joe) survive with their respective children.
Patricia had a kind and generous heart and worked tirelessly to observe and promoteher Roman Catholic faith. She was elegant in her style, highly intelligent, and articulate. Patricia was actively involved with numerous charitable and religious endeavors. She was recognized as a Dame of St. Gregory the Great (1997), the highest honor a layperson can receive from the Catholic Church, was elected a Dame of Malta (American Association), achieved the rank of Lady Grand Cross of Holy Sepulchre and served as a member of the Sepulchre Board until 2012. She served as a Trustee of St. Patrick’s Cathedral from 1999 to 2014. She was a member of the Advisory Board of The Cardinal Cooke Guild and of the Board of Trustees of St. Joseph’s Seminary until 2009.
Patricia was predeceased by her parentsand her sisters, Kathleen Rogers andMargaret Gorman. She was a loving and much loved aunt to Thomas Rogers, Patricia Rooney, Maureen Gorman, Maggie Innelliand Sheila Gorman.
Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, November 30 between 3 pm and 7 pm at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home, 1076 Madison Ave (enter through the door on E. 81st Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 1 at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Cathedral with interment at Gate of Heaven, Hawthorne, New York immediately following.
