Norman M. Levy, age 96, passed away peacefully at his home in Manhattan on Thursday, surrounded by his close family and lots of love. Survived by his wife, Helene, children Lisa, Gina and Cliff, and grandchildren Danya, Arden and Emmett. Norman was born in Antwerp and moved to New York when he was 3. Soon after, his life was upended by the death of his father in a robbery. His difficult childhood made him cherish his family all the more.
He was a voracious reader with a wondrous intellect. When his grandchildren were young, their typical response when they had questions about the world was, “Let’s go ask grandpa!”
His career was in psychiatry but he dreamed of being an artist, and so in his retirement, he spent countless hours sculpting at the Art Students League. He was also a fossil explainer at the American Museum of Natural History. He became the person that he had wanted to be, inspiring us all.
