Mark Julius Schoenebaum

Mark was born in Des Moines Iowa. He attended Indiana University to pursue a major in Violin Performance, but ultimately took a degree in History while continuing to pursue his violin studies. Mark developed an interest in medical history as part of his degree program and this, in part, led him to pursue a degree in Medicine. He graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2000.

Mark began a 17-year career as a sell-side biotechnology and pharmaceuticals analyst in 2000. He started as a junior biotech analyst at CIBC, and held increasing senior roles at Piper Jaffrey, Bear Stearns, Deutsche Bank, and ISI Group-Evercore Partners. Mark was ranked the No. 1 biotechnology analyst for 12 years in a row in Institutional Investor’s annual ranking of Wall Street’s top analysts. He was also named the No.1 analyst in the major pharmaceuticals sector in 2014-16. As an analyst, Mark transformed the job. He was widely considered to be the best financial analyst to have existed – ever. From deep dives, to webinars and weekly videos, Mark changed the way companies were covered and information disseminated. He was immediately available anytime and anywhere. Mark was also known for being modest, self-deprecating, and incredibly generous to everyone he knew.

Mark met his best friend and wife, Tiffany, in the orchestra at Valley High School in West Des Moines, Iowa in the fall of 1989. After time apart during college, they reunited in 1996 and were married in 2002. Mark and Tiffany welcomed their daughters Isadora and Lucille in 2010 and 2013, respectively. Mark was the happiest when he was eating breakfast with his family in the local diner or taking his daughters to Yankee games and “the secret hot chocolate place”. He loved introducing Izzy and Lucie to classical music and was on his way to becoming quite a violin “tiger dad”.

Mark was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, in-law, friend, uncle, and cousin. He loved to treat everyone around him to the best that life had to offer. If he was taking you to dinner, you had better be hungry. If you were visiting him, he was paying for your plane ticket. If he noticed that your laptop was looking shabby, suddenly you would have a new one. Mark gave generously to all, yet in the most unpretentious and humble way.

Mark is survived by his wife, Tiffany Tedore, their daughters Isadora and Lucille, his parents Steven and Mary Schoenebaum, his sister Carrie Schoenebaum, and a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends that all adore him and will miss him terribly.
