Laurence “Laurie” David Weinberg, born in New York, NY on May 17, 1940, passed away on April 25, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri. Laurie, a gifted pianist, and proud alumnus of Dartmouth College ‘62, leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion.
Laurie, known for his warm and welcoming nature, never met a stranger and always saw the best in those around him. He studied piano for 20 years and considered a career in music before obtaining his MBA at Columbia University. He served as Vice President of Weinberg News Corp., a family-owned newspaper distribution business founded by his grandfather Harry Weinberg. Laurie later served as Circulation Manager of a national Jewish newspaper, The Forward.
In addition to his career in the newspaper business, Laurie cherished his family above all else. He was a beloved husband of 55 years to Debra Weiss Weinberg. Laurie and Debbie met on a blind date, and it was love at first sight. They never left each other’s side and raised their family in Manhattan near their parents and lifelong friends. Laurie was a loving father and grandfather to his children Victoria (Barry) Singer and Andrew (Monica) Weinberg and grandchildren Daphne, Leo, Alexander, Jonathan, and Stephanie.
Laurie was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvia and Abraham “Babe” Weinberg, and his siblings Gail and Kenneth Weinberg. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Laurie’s funeral will be held Tuesday, April 30th, 11am at Frank E Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Avenue, NY, NY. (East 81st St).
