Laura Rodgers McCartney, mother to Jack and Alexandra (“Ally”) passed away suddenly on February 6, 2023 at the age of 55. She was born on June 3, 1967, in Teaneck, New Jersey, to Helen and James Rodgers, the youngest of seven children.
As the youngest child of her large family Laura was adored by her six older siblings who loved spending happy times with her, spoiling their baby sister and enjoying wonderful family vacations together on Hilton Head Island. Laura was an excellent athlete, and was a competitive swimmer and field hockey player.
Laura attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with Distinction and Phi Beta Kappa. Laura then received an MBA from Harvard Business School, graduating as a Baker Scholar with High Distinction. Laura was one of the trailblazers in the dotcom era, founding one of the first internet startups, babystyle (e-Style Inc.). She was selected as the Businesswoman of the Year in 2000 by the Los Angeles Times. Laura also held executive positions at Morgan Stanley, Disney and recently at the Blackstone subsidiary, Ascend Learning.
While Laura achieved a great deal of academic and professional success, her finest achievement was being a wonderful, devoted mother to her beloved children, Jack and Ally. Laura raised Jack and Ally as a single parent, dedicating her life to them and surrounding them with love and kindness. They were the focal point of her life and she was never happier than when spending time with Jack and Ally, watching them blossom into the fine adults they have become.
Laura and her children enjoyed living in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles for many years, before moving to Arizona. She delighted in California’s sunny days and her wonderful network of kind and supportive friends there.
Laura was deeply loved by so many and she will be dearly missed. Laura is survived by her beloved children, Jack and Ally, and her 6 siblings: Anne Rodgers Rice (Daniel), Helenmarie Rodgers, James Rodgers (Karen), Peter Rodgers (Beth), John Rodgers (Laurie), Alice Rodgers MacDiarmid (Ross) and many nieces and nephews and dear friends.
