Kevin Kish was born on June 12th, 1960, the fourth child of seven children of Joan and Bill Kish, a lifelong FBI agent. Kevin was welcomed to the world with a personal note from J. Edgar Hoover, former Director of the FBI. Growing up Kevin was gifted in math and sciences and an exceptional athlete in wrestling, gymnastics, soccer and baseball.
Starting from his childhood well into his pursuit of higher education, Kevin was innately curious about nature and interested in people. He attended Cornell Medical School with the aspiration to become a doctor, just to drop out to pursue his PhD in Physics. To Dr Kish, physics had always been and remained his true passion until his final days.
Kevin's career path is better described in an adventure story than in a typical resume. From sous-chef to private investigator, from hedge funds to investment banks, Kevin was a creative problem solver, got bored on mundane tasks, thrived on hard problems and was a natural leader energized by intelligent people surrounding him.
During his decades long career on Wall Street, Kevin helped many people find jobs to become successful professionals whether they started out as a gym manager, bartender, singer, kungfu master, high schooler or fulltime mom or dad. At home, Kevin served dutifully as his daughter Lulu's private tutor and her human ChatGPT on all subjects. After he retired from Wall Street, he devoted his time to exploring cures for Parkinson's Disease and studying the thermodynamics of the climate system.
In addition to physics, Kevin loved music. He delighted in the presence of gifted musicians and artists, celebrated adult and children's birthdays alike with live opera performances, hosted at home concerts and served on the board of the Salome Chamber Orchestra. He frequented Broadway musicals (including seeing his all time favorite On The Town 11 times) and was a producer of the musical Superyou. Kevin was an ardent supporter of the arts and artists whose melodies and messages resonated with him.
Kind, generous and loving to his core, Kevin enjoyed life and loved people. He persevered through the immense challenges from Parkinson's with grace, strength and effortless humor. As he once said as his medication was wearing off, “I’d better keep on moving before I turn into a pumpkin”. Kevin, dearest friend, beloved brother, amazing dad, will be missed dearly by every doorman in every building in which he ever resided, by the myriad friends he made everywhere he went, and, most acutely, by all those lucky enough to have loved, and been loved by, Kevin.
A public visitation for Kevin will be held Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Frank E. Campbell - The Funeral Chapel, 1076 Madison Ave, New York, New York 10028. A funeral service will occur from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM and a reception will follow from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
