Georges Azzam, 59, died unexpectedly on October 25, 2021 in New York City. He is survived by his devoted wife of 25 years, Sheryl Azzam, and by his two sons, Dillon Azzam and Tyler Azzam. His only sibling, his sister Sherine Gatto, and her husband David Gatto, live in Maryland.
Georges Azzam was born on November 2, 1961, in Geneva, Switzerland. He was the first-born child of Wadih “Bob” Azzam and Minnie Azzam. Georges earned a JD/MBA in 1986 from the University of Geneva.
Having spent his youth traveling throughout Europe, it was on his first trip to the US, at the age of 15, that he knew he had found his home. Georges left Switzerland and his beloved family in July of 1987 to make a life in New York. Georges knew he was born to be a New Yorker.
A native speaker of French and German, Georges was determined to master English by speaking often, and by listening to everyone, even leaving the television on as he slept. He was committed to creating his own life, and successfully pursued what would become a 30+ year career in Investment Banking.
Georges started as an Analyst at Shearson Lehman Brothers. He then joined Kidder Peabody, Salomon Brothers, SG Cowen, and Société Générale. He served as Co-Head of Americas M&A at Nomura, before becoming a Managing Director in M&A at Bank of America in 2019.
Georges originally met Sheryl Etergino at Kidder Peabody in 1988. Years later, Georges and Sheryl reconnected in Paris. It was true love. Georges and Sheryl married in Monte Carlo, Monaco in August 1996. They lived a life of romance, love, travel, and family.
Georges Azzam’s greatest pride and love was his family. His eldest son, Dillon, is a graduate of Caltech and an Investment Banking Associate at Bank of America. Tyler is a Senior at the University of Notre Dame, and will be graduating with a degree in Economics in May of 2022.
A private family funeral is scheduled for November 1st. Those who wish to honor Georges and to share memories, stories, or photos, are invited to do so on this page. In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts can be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
