A graduate of Horace Mann School, Dan earned his bachelor's degree from New York University. He was the President and Co-Owner of Daniel Jones Furniture, a well-known establishment on the Lower East Side. Later in life, he embarked on a successful career as a stockbroker, ultimately retiring from Bear Stearns.
Retirement allowed Dan more time to pursue his love for photography. An accomplished photographer, his signature style was his impressionistic images of flowers and other subjects. He was an avid lifelong learner who constantly sought new knowledge and skills. He took Great Courses, devoted much time to reading, attended lectures, and explored computer technology.
A dedicated Francophile and fluent in French, Dan kept up with the language through literature, French news programs, and speaking French with every francophone he met. He enjoyed travel, and, together with his wife, Joan, he traveled extensively, with memorable trips to France, Egypt, Italy, Thailand, and Greece.
One of the greatest joys in Dan’s life was sailing. For many years, he spent summer weekends in Jamesport, sailing his boat - “Joie de Vivre” - on Long Island Sound. He also had a special place in his heart for Lake George NY, honing his sailing skills on the lake and enjoying the beauty of that region. In his later years, when he was no longer able to sail, he took great delight in sailing model sailboats at Conservatory Water in Central Park and befriending fellow enthusiasts.
Dan cherished his family, valued his many friendships, and embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; his sons, Clark and Roland, and Roland's wife, Nance; his stepdaughter, Deborah, and her partner, Victor; his stepson, Danny, and Danny's wife, Nancy; and his granddaughters, Katharine, Samantha, and Cassie.
May his memory be for a blessing.
