Brian Patrick Wade was the son of Patricia Ryan and Bernard Joseph Wade (deceased). Brian is survived by his wife of 43 years, Maryanne (nee McQuade); cherished children Katie Hogan and Owen Wade and wonderful son-in-law Kevin Hogan. He also leaves behind his adored grandchildren Jack and Clare Hogan. They were clearly the light of his life.
Brian was born in New York City, and at six months old he moved to Kodiak, Alaska with his parents, as his father was a Chief in the United States Navy. A few years later they moved back to New York and settled in the Inwood section of Upper Manhattan.
Brian spent his formative years at All Hallows, an all-boys high school in the South Bronx. All Hallows made such an impression on him that he spent many years as a member of the school board, working to give other young men the same meaningful experiences he had. He was inducted into the All Hallows Hall of Fame in 2007, in appreciation to his commitment to the school. He also received the Tom Burke Memorial Trophy in 2017.
He then went to Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he met Maryanne. Although they first met on the train ride up to Poughkeepsie for a freshman orientation, they were friends until they started dating senior year. Marist was also where he met his “Boys of Summer” who become more like family than friends.
After finding success as an insurance executive at New York Life, Brian switched careers and moved into investment banking. He spent nearly a decade at First Boston, and then more than 25 years at Lehman Brothers/Barclays, ending his career as the Global Head of Private Capital Markets. Upon retiring, he joined Advantage Capital as a consultant.
Throughout his career, Brian was mentored by many and was a mentor to many as well. He was fiercely loyal to all he worked for and to all those that worked for him. Feisty at times, he always tried to protect his colleagues, so much so that his wife worried that he might soon be unemployed.
Proud of his heritage, Brian loved everything Irish. He spent his third year of college abroad in Maynooth, Ireland. Of his time there, he was most proud of the fact that he taught his mates that after the bars closed at 11:00pm, you could buy a keg and keep the party going! He was an avid reader of Irish history, and spent many a winter Sunday afternoon next to the fireplace reading and listening to Irish music. He went on countless golf trips throughout Ireland with a great group of buddies, and returned home with the funniest stories and great memories. He loved spending time at his home in Sea Girt, New Jersey, one of the towns comprising the “Irish Riviera” (wonder why that’s where he ended up)! Following in their father’s footsteps, both his children spent their time abroad in Ireland.
Brian had an outgoing personality and loved being around people, learning about their lives and interests and took every opportunity to celebrate. He has countless friends who will surely miss him.
One of his favorite movies was “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Though his life was too short, as his illness progressed, he felt this was the summation of his time here.
Let us raise a glass to a LIFE WELL LIVED!!!
We will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace.
The family will be setting up a scholarship in his name at All Hallows High School. In lieu of flowers, they request you make a donation, in his name, to All Hallows High School, 111 East 164th Street, The Bronx, New York 10452.
