One of my favorite photos with her. It was a cold day. It doesn't get that cold that often in the city anymore. But it was always one of the warmest day of my life because I got to spend the evening with her. We got pizza and hot chocolate afterwards.

On Alyssa's 14th birthday, we all pooled together some cash and bought her a cake and some party favors. We also got the bag of extra icing they didn't use on the cake, and decided to give ourselves mustaches. We were a bunch of goofy kids. We had just graduated from middle school, and it was one of my first times hanging out with friends in a context outside of the classroom.

When I was 14, I would always be tasked with taking care of my little siblings. Alyssa never minded when I brought my little sister around. She was so good with kids. My sister loved her, and Alyssa never wasted a moment not loving my then 4 year old sister and kept her entertained.

I worked with her for so long.  I'm deeply sorry to the family and friends.  I head the news before but I didn't want it to register.  I didn't want to believe. 
I'm blessed to have gotten to know her and work with her at bubby's. God Bless everyone.

today, i miss you more than anything. I miss your voice, your laugh, your smile, your intelligent conversations and all the silly things in between. You truly were just a blessing & i don’t know how im gonna live the rest of my life trying to learn a new normal. I hate to make this all about me, but who am I supposed to talk too? what am i supposed to do if there’s no you? This won’t go back to normal, if it ever was. I know you’re probably doing better where you are. I’m hoping it gets easier with time and I keep saying it… because I have too.

I'm so sorry to hear about Alyssa's passing. I was her teacher at Bard and I remember her quite fondly as a charming, strong, and dynamic young person. I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I taught Alyssa at BHSEC Queens and have such fond, vivid memories of her warmth and compassion. She was beautiful inside and out. I’m so sorry for your loss.

This is the only pic I have of you but it was a great memory. We were all traveling and exploring el yunque together. You shared how you loved nature and waterfalls. I just took this pic in the moment. Love you cuz and sad we didn't get to spend more time together. The short time I did get to hang with you was a fun time. I still actually talk about it to this day. ❤️

My deepest condolences to everyone who’s experienced Alyssa’s presence. You didn’t have to be close to her to know how amazing she truly was. Although we didn’t speak much since we graduated, I’ll never forget how warm & welcoming her energy was. It says a-lot about someone when we haven’t had a full conversation since high school but the mutual support was known. Because that’s who she was. One of the most genuine people I’ve ever met. Praying for the strength & healing of her loved ones.

If you had the privilege to know Alyssa like I did, you know that her presence was ethereal. She was really something from another world. Blazingly confident, incomparably smart, and supremely talented. Her love and support transcended far beyond any and every friendship I’ve ever had. Her capacity to forgive and exonerate the people around her made her, by far, the most compassionate person I have ever met. I will guard all our memories—the good, the bad, and the ugly— as the most thrilling and cathartic part of my adolescence. I don’t believe that death is finite and if you knew Alyssa, you knew she was very aligned with her spirituality. I am certain that I will feel her in every tree, every song, every sun, and every moon infinitely until I am reunited with her. Thank you for being in my life, Alyssa. I am a better person because of you.

Grief is a tormenting thing far more significant than ourselves. It is a greater being that takes over. Grief is the tumbling headfirst into abstraction. The breathless moment of panic and pain upon discovery. Nothing makes sense: time, space, names, and certainly not life.
It is not about finding a substitute because no one lost can be substituted. It is a transcending abstraction, launching us forward to a new, sustainable normal.
Grief is so individual, so independent of our consciousness. And yet, no two griefs, no two losses are alike
To grieve someone who carried the world on their shoulders would be a disgrace. Someone who lit up the world and reinstated the good and the faith in people should be honored. 
It was an honor to have been in your life, Alyssa. You were the best friend to me as I was to you. I cherish all the growth we experienced together and hold on to our friendship forever. Thank you for shining your light in my life. 
You will forever be honored by me.

Rest in peace Alyssa, you were such a kind and beautiful soul. I remember the deep conversations we had a few years ago about all things spiritual, the universe and nature, and things no one else could relate to. We shared similar beliefs and anxieties, including about “what happens next” (hoping it’s like a dream), and you always made me feel not alone. We related a lot, and I’m deeply sad to know you are gone. I hope to see you in the next big adventure, Alyssa.
