As the son of proud Irish immigrants, Thomas grew up in a traditional working class neighborhood, and as a young man, delivered newspapers and caddied. He then began working at Cleveland News in the advertising department, where he began an apprenticeship in typesetting and worked there for 35 years. He worked hard providing for his family and demonstrated every day his commitment to giving his family a loving, stable home. He was the best example of how to be a caring husband, father, brother, and friend.
Tom spent a lifetime serving others. He was often volunteering at churches and other local organizations. Through his service to others, he demonstrated to everyone who knew him how to live a good life. He enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife and his children, especially trips to Topsail Beach, NC. He was of the Catholic faith, serving as a Eucharist minister and lector, and a proud officer of the Knights of Columbus.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Cleary; son, Daniel (Christine Bruno) Cleary, daughter; Bridgett (Kyle) Thompson; brothers, James (Sally) Cleary, Terrance (Jean) Cleary; grandchildren, Siobhan Cleary, Megan Thompson, and Connor Thompson.
