Marie Solveig Jensen was born on July 25, 1925 on a farm in Western North Dakota, to Sigvard “Sam” and Marie (Handeland) Langager. She was the youngest of 8 surviving children. She attended the Stewart School, and graduated from Ray High School in North Dakota, and attended Lutheran Bible Schools in Fergus Falls, MN before moving to New York where she worked as a Secretary. It was while living in New York that she met J. Trygve “Tryg” Jensen. They were married in 1950 and made their home on Staten Island. Marie received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Early Childhood Education from Wagner College. She eventually taught at, and then became the Director of, Wagner’s Early Childhood Center. Marie enjoyed her career at Wagner and loved raising their two children, James and Linda. She also loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, and her life rested firmly on her faith in Him. Marie was known for being a prayer warrior, and was a tremendous example of faithfulness to all her family. She and Tryg were very involved in Bethany Lutheran Brethren Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir, a women’s trio and a quartet. After retirement they moved to New Port Richey, Florida where they enjoyed the sunshine, their new home, and family. Both Marie and Tryg became involved in their new church family at Sunshine Lutheran Brethren Church, where they spent many hours in fellowship and service. Marie had a gift for making anyone feel welcome and special, using her gift of hospitality in countless ways. In recent years Marie was a resident of Atria, Windsor Woods in Hudson. She was preceded in death by her husband Trygve and is survived by her son James and his wife Sharon, her daughter Linda and her husband Rich Heggland; 7 grandchildren: Erika (and Stephen) Hoidalen, David (and Sara) Heggland, Kari (and Matthew) Meisinger, Amanda (and Austin) Porritt, Sonja Jensen, Jens Jensen, and James Jensen; and 12 great-grandchildren: Luke and Sophie Hoidalen; Emery, Ellie and Jensen Heggland; Christopher, Aaron, Solvi, Mariana and Benjamin Meisinger; Millie, Lucy and baby boy Porritt.
