Thomas Clement Freitag, 69, of Kenner, Louisiana, passed peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, November 28, 2021. Tom was born on February 1, 1952 to Shirley Kowen Dawes and Edward George Freitag at Hotel Dieu, New Orleans, Louisiana, where he lived most of his life. He moved to Kenner, where he and his wife of 46 years, Sondra Corbin Freitag have resided and raised their family. Those left to honor his memory are his wife, his children, Jennifer Cottingham Vicknair (Mark), April Freitag Hannah (Kevin), Sara Freitag, and Thomas Clement Freitag Jr. (Leigha Cooley). Tom's “Family Garden” and most precious treasures were his 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The minute they appeared, his entire soul lit up! Tom is also survived by two brothers, Jimmy Skeins of Gardnervllle, Nevada and Edward George Freitag (Yvonne) of New Smyrna, Florida; three sisters, Elaine Casey (Danny) of Antioch, California; Darlene Nelson (Mike) of Slidell, Louisiana and Denise Dawes Halverson (Tommy) of Kenner, Louisiana; as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his father, Edward George Freitag, his mother, Shirley Kowen Dawes, his stepfather, Robed Joseph Dawes II and his brother, Robert Joseph Dawes III (Robbie).
Tom was a man of many great talents. He was an extremely talented musician and lover of music, playing guitar and piano. Tom was an excellent artist and master carpenter. He was an AVID antique collector with a wonderful eye for all things he and his wife enjoyed shopping for and collecting through the years. He had a magnetic personality and a heart of gold-something shared and treasured, not only by his family, but also to all those lives he touched. He always had something funny to say to spread a little cheer and brighten someone's day. Heaven is lucky to have him. He will never know how much we love him, until he looks into Jesus’ eyes. Then, this will all make sense.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana, 70124, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m.
