She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years, Milton Lackey; her daughter, Rhonda L. Holder (Charles); sons, Randall J. Lackey (fiancé, Tiffany Easterling) and Brian S. Lackey; and her three grandchildren, Elizabeth L. Holder, Randall J. Lackey, Jr. and Brandon M. Holder.
Born on January 14, 1949 to the late, Randall J. Stiller and Florence L. Stiller, Susan is preceded in death by her sister, Brenda S. Ayer.
Born and raised in the Holy Cross district of the Ninth Ward in New Orleans, LA., Susan embodied the spirit and essence of what it means to be a true New Orleanian. She graduated from Annunciation High School with the Class of 1966. Later in life, after raising her 3 children, she graduated from the University of Holy Cross (formerly Our Lady of Holy Cross College) with a B.S. Business Administration in 2002.
Susan and Milton have visited all 50 of the United States. They have also seen 6 of the 7 Wonders of the world while traveling to 5 continents and more than 35 of the member states of the United Nations. When not traveling around the world with her husband, Susan was still working as Associate Volunteer Coordinator for Associated Catholic Charities where she had worked for the past 30 years.
Susan loved sports and was a dedicated Season Ticket Holder of the New Orleans Saints, New Orleans Pelicans, and Tulane women’s basketball.
Susan was a Brother of the International Business Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi. As an alumni volunteer leader of the Fraternity, she held various positions, including: Gulf South Regional Vice President 2013 - 2017, District Director for the Nu Omicron Chapter at the University of Holy Cross 2004-2008, District Director for the Delta Nu Chapter at Loyola University 2010-2013 and 2017 - present, and Gulf South Regional Awards Committee Chair 2011-13. Additionally, she held various elected positions while associated with the New Orleans-Crescent City Alumni Chapter. She was a member of the Golden Council, the 10K Club, and the 2007 Centennial Society. In 2008, she was honored as the Gulf South Region District Director of the Year.
Susan was inducted into Kappa Gamma Pi, The National Catholic College Graduate Honor Society, in 2001. She served as Secretary of the New Orleans Chapter and as a liaison with the University of Holy Cross to promote the organization on campus and encourage nominations on an annual basis. She personally sponsored the St. Catherine Medal at UHC so that undergraduate students could be recognized for their excellence in leadership, scholarship, faith and service.
In addition to her local activities, she also served as an officer on the National Board of Kappa Gamma Pi, first as Third Vice President and then First Vice President. These roles encompassed many responsibilities, including planning national conventions, serving as Chair of the National Awards Committee, Chair of Personnel Committee, and offering support to all board members as needed. She was dedicated to the mission of Kappa and exemplified the motto of faith and service in everything she did.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
