Stanley George Dinkel, beloved husband for 63 years of Elise Buisson Dinkel, died on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in Birmingham, Alabama at the age of 90. He was the father of Don L. Dinkel (Judy Casey) of Mobile, Al., Darrell G. Dinkel (Rita Boike) of Hoover, Al., and Dawnell D. Sands (Ken) of Bossier City, LA. He was the Grandfather of ten and Great-grandfather of five. He was the son of the late George Jacob Dinkel and Lydia Heyl Dinkel, brother of Milton Dinkel, Melva Burgess and Audrey Meagher. Mr. Dinkel was a life-long resident of New Orleans, LA and a parishioner of St Dominic Parish for 61 years until Hurricane Katrina destroyed his home. He was past President of St Dominic‘s Holy Name Society and an extra-ordinary Minister of the Eucharist. Mr. Dinkel graduated from Tulane University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of the Tau Beta Pi Honor Fraternity. He worked for the General Electric Co. for 39 years from 1942-1981 where he was the District Manager of Southwestern Electrical and Electronic Services for the Installation and Service Engineering Department. He was Past President of the Lions Club of New Orleans, Member of the Louisiana Engineering Society and Member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. He served years as the Explorer Scout Leader of Post 23 and was active in the Peoples Program where he taught the Stained Glass Classes. Following Hurricane Katrina they moved to Birmingham, AL where they have resided at the Oaks on Parkwood. He was an avid Wii bowler and participated in many tournaments. They were parishioners of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Visitation in Birmingham will be Wednesday, February 16, from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation in New Orleans will be at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street on Friday, February 18th from 9:00 to11:00AM, with Mass of Christian burial following. Interment will be at Hope Mausoleum.
