Shirley Terese Vaughn

Shirley Canepa Vaughn, 87, entered the Kingdom of God on October 3, 2016. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose selflessness and dedication to her family were an example to all who knew her. She is survived by her children: Sr. Shirley Vaughn, CCVI; Robert L. Vaughn (Cathy); Judy Vaughn Rosanno (Paul); David T. Vaughn (Kim); Michael J. Vaughn (Lydia); daughter-in-law, Mary D. Vaughn; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: S. Joseph Canepa (Gwen); Stanley Canepa (Iris); Carol C. Hollier; Elaine C. Calvo; Sara C. Oubre; Kathy C. Gonzales (Miguel); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Lucille Rees Canepa, the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Shirley S. Vaughn; her son, John W. Vaughn, Sr.; daughter, Carolyn Marie Vaughn Gracia; and grandson, Jeffrey W. Vaughn. In addition to raising seven children, she also cared for her parents and other elder relatives. She assisted with Cub Scout and Girl Scout troops and was a “room mother” at St. Catherine of Siena School multiple times. She was the founding President of the Archbishop Chapelle High School Parents’ Club and later President of the Mothers’ Co-operative Club at SCS School. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US, Canada and Mexico, doing needlepoint and playing bingo. A native of New Orleans, she was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy and a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Metairie for more than 55 years. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 7th from 10 a.m. until the noon Mass of Christian Burial at OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY CHURCH, 3368 Esplanade Ave., New Orleans. Interment will be at St. Louis Cemetery #3 following the Mass.
