Shirley Catherine Meyers Seghers (Ah-Ma-Ma) passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on Monday, December 12, 2022 at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her parents Eugene Meyers, Sr. and Jeannette Luwisch Meyers, two sisters Yvonne Eckels and Merilyn Prestenbach, two brothers Eugene Jr. and Herman Meyers, Sr. Shirley was married 53 years to the late George M. Seghers, Sr., and was preceded in death by two of her six children George M. Seghers, Jr. (Tina), and Faye S. Piediscalzo (Frank). She was born at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA before residing in Gretna, LA and Port Sulphur, LA, where she lived for the past 22 years at her daughter’s home. Shirley attended McDonogh #35 and worked for Bell South before becoming a dear wife and loving mother. Her favorite holiday was Christmas Eve and her most cherished memory was the party of 34 people who came and spent time with her. She loved Christmas movies and rides to see the decorated homes. Shirley’s hobbies were league bowling, collecting timbles-snowglobes, potted plants and in her later years, jigsaw puzzles, word search books and collecting everything Tinker Bell and Angels and watching games shows.
Shirley is survived by four daughters: Linda Burns (Thomas, Sr.), Shirley Wax (Herbert), Carol Thomas (Peter) and Mary Bulot (Carl). Son-in-law David Griffin, Sr. and daughter-in-law Karen Ernst, 8 grandchildren: Thomas Jr. (Kaye), Traci Hunt (Will), Dianne and David Griffin, Jr., Dawn Seghers, Michelle Billiot (Eddie), Matthew Thomas and Steve Champagne, 9 great-grandchildren: Kaleigh Loup (Austin), Gaby and Ben Burns, Cooper and Carson Hunt, Braeden and Brendan Bertucci, Katelynn and Madison Billiot and 1 great-great grandchild Brody. Godmother of Jackie Novoa. Aunt of Judy Rodrigue who unselfishly helped our Mother and Father for many years. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Shirley’s family would like to thank Compassus Hospice staff especially Angel, Gayle, Leonard, Maria and Denise. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass celebrating her life at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 on Thursday, December 22, at 12:00 p.m. The family will host a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with interment for family only.
