Sharon Anne Perlis passed away at the age of 77 on August 24, 2022, at her home in New Orleans. She was born on October 2, 1944, to the late Rogers Isidore Perlis and Dorothy Koehl Perlis. Sharon was a graduate of Isidore Newman School, Principia College, and Tulane University Law School. She was among only 3 women in her first-year law school class and was recognized by the New Orleans Bar Association as one of the First 100 Women Lawyers in the Greater New Orleans Area. A career attorney, Sharon also served many decades on the board of Perlis Inc., her family’s retail clothing business, as corporate Secretary. Principia College honored Sharon with their Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006.
A lifelong member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Sharon deeply valued her active role in the church. Additionally, she held posts on numerous boards and commissions including: the Economic Development Council for the State of Louisiana, Metairie Bank, the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, the Louisiana Children’s Museum, the Albert Baker Fund, the WYES public television Board of Trustees, the Board of Commissioners for the Port of New Orleans, and the New Orleans Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. She proudly chaired the last two.
Among her many interests, Sharon most relished her advisory role to Perlis Inc., following in her father’s footsteps as a director of Metairie Bank, intellectual banter with her book club, and spending quality time at her country home in Carriere, MS.
Sharon is survived by her brother, David George Perlis; her niece, Michelle Perlis Harper (Richard); her nephew, David Wicker Perlis (Suzanne); her great nephews, John Michael Patison III, Andrew Charles Patison and Robert Wicker Perlis; and her great nieces, Caroline Elizabeth Perlis and Lauren Michelle Perlis. Sharon always made time for family and left them all with cherished memories. Sharon’s family would also like to recognize Marcy Sandoz and Alli Raynor among the close-knit group of her lifelong friendships.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 11:00AM. A visitation will begin at 9:00AM.
