Robert Craig Sanders, a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA, passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2023. Born on January 19, 1968, Craig was a loving husband and devoted father. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, LouAnne Vieth Sanders, and his beloved children, Robert “Bobby” Craig Sanders, Jr. and Ashley Elizabeth Sanders. To say that Craig was a family man would be an understatement. His greatest joy and source of pride was his family.
A 13-year vet of Metairie Park Country Day School, Craig went on to graduate magna cum laude with a B.S. in Management and to earn his Masters in Accounting and Business Administration from Tulane University. Craig remained involved with his alma mater by serving on the Executive Committee for the Tulane Association of Business Alumni.
Craig’s keen intellect, adept people skills, and leadership expertise were invaluable to his 20-year career with the Associated Branch Pilots. Craig served on the boards of multiple organizations, including the Special Olympics of Louisiana. His commitment to the community led to his nomination to participate in the Leadership Louisiana Class of 2012, a program sponsored by Council for a Better Louisiana that trains local leaders in challenges facing our state and explores solutions to help move Louisiana forward. Craig was a member of the Boston Club and the New Orleans Country Club.
Craig’s unwavering devotion to his family was admired by all who knew him. Craig actively participated in his children’s sports and activities, volunteering as a Youth Sports Coach with Carrollton Boosters and serving as his son’s Boy Scout troop leader for 12 years. Craig shared his love of aviation and scuba diving with his family by taking them on adventures around the world.
Four older siblings survive Craig: Linda Sanders Stone (Don), Margaret “Margo” Sanders Phelps (Esmond), Nancy “Nonie” Sanders Tuz (Peter) of Charlottesville, VA, and Samuel “Bo” Sanders, IV (Sally). He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Sanders, III, and Margaret Craig Sanders. Craig was also devoted to his dogs: Chips, “Bo Bo,” Hershey, Gumbo, Tabasco, Tiffany, Remington, and Zeus.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Louisiana SPCA, Council for a Better Louisiana, or to the organization of your choice.
