Robert "Rob" William Dunn

Robert “Rob” William Dunn passed away unexpectedly on August 12th, 2024, at home in his cherished city of New Orleans. He embodied the essence and optimism of the New Orleans spirit. He led a rich life, fostering friendships that evolved into a nationwide extended family.

Rob, a proficient entrepreneur, excelled in accounting, design, and customer service. He treasured his business, Bayou Closets, co-owned with his trusted partner, Kacey Roberts (Tony), and their exceptional team.

He was known as Rob or Robbie to his elder brother Jack Dunn (Carole), sisters Joellen Tschirn ((late)Tommy), Laurie Tschirn, and the late Saralee Keating. He was a beloved baby brother.

He deeply cared for his nieces and nephews, treating them as his children, including Deborah Seidel (Randy), Cathy Thomas, Tricia Daley (James), Scott Keating (Aimee), Jennifer Poe (Jason), Stephanie Deker (Brian), Lisa Seben, Rebecca Keating (Rick), Erin Halligan (Dennis), John Dunn, Billy Tschirn (Lea), and Alyssa Boudreaux (Albert), along with his late nephew Michael Tschirn (Kristin).

His great-nieces and great-nephews were cherished as his grandchildren, including Mackenzie Thomas, Ryan Seidel, Allison Seidel, Nicholas Deker, Gracie Poe, Haley Wattigny, Thomas Tschirn, Jackson Poe, Jolie Tusha, Emma Wattigny, Ashley Deker, Emily Deker, Gavin Halligan, Natalie Smith, Hunter Smith, Sarah Wattigny, Ollie Tschirn, Ami Tschirn, Amanda Wattigny, and Alexa Boudreaux.

An authentic and enthusiastic man, Rob promoted inclusivity and instilled in us the values of responsibility, empathy, hard work, generosity, and never give up.

Rob’s culinary and gardening skills were widely acknowledged. He cultivated a vibrant garden with flourishing Irises and Gladiolas. Rob was also a constant history student and professor of all things New Orleans.

Rob captured life's moments through his camera lens, finding joy and humor even in difficult times. He taught us to adapt to life's changes, make and own our decisions, and maintain hope for a brighter future.

Rob believed in everyone's right to vote and the importance of freedom. His irreplaceable presence now graces Heaven, motivating us to embrace joy, laughter, realize our potential, savor good food, refrain from judgmental thoughts, and most importantly, not take ourselves too seriously.

Please join us for a Mardi Gras celebration of life, just as Rob would want it, held at Lake Lawn Funeral Home on August 23rd, 2024, at 10 a.m. And, Lawdy, don’t be naughty or gaudy; just being on time will be fine.
