Richard Lawrence Bodet

Richard was born in New Orleans, LA on January 2, 1937 to C. Adrien Bodet, Sr. and Cecilia Spellman Bodet. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans in 1955 and Loyola University in New Orleans where he ran track and received a Law degree. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft Bragg, North Carolina, where he was an officer in the Jag Corps and a Parachutist from 1961 to 1964. He enjoyed parachuting and he would mention it earned him an extra $100 per month, a significant sum back then.

As an attorney, Richard was a proud member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, receiving a 50-Year Certificate in the practice of law in 2011. He loved fishing, duck hunting, and golf. He often participated in the Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo and Beau Chene golf tournaments where he won several awards.

Known for his quick wit and humor, Richard was also an excellent cook who cherished Louisiana cuisine and culture. Above all, he loved his family – his daughters, grandchildren, and extended family!

Richard was preceded in death by his parents C. Adrien Bodet, Sr and Cecilia Spellman Bodet and siblings, brothers Adrien(Ade), Robert(Bobby), and Jean(Jay), and his sister, Carolyn Deynoodt (Sissy).

He is survived by his children: Michelle (Andre’), Elizabeth (Bill), Catherine (Leo), and Sharon (Paul). Papa had 8 grandchildren, Michael Ceraso, Nicole Ceraso, Nathan Boyle, Brianna Boyle Armstrong, Sydney McAvoy, Seth McAvoy, Emily Logan, and Erica Logan. Unc also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, including his Godson, Chris Bodet.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Belle Maison of Hammond where he enjoyed the friendship of the staff who attended to his physical needs. Special thanks also to the devoted clergy including Fr. Cayet, Fr. Paul Gros, and many others, who attended to his spiritual needs.

Mass will be held October 26th at 12:30 at the Jesuit High School Small Chapel, Holy Name of Jesus Chapel. Interment will follow at 2:00 in the Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum, South Unit II, 5454 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA.
