He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Elise Fenner Lapeyre, and his three children: Pierre Fernand Lapeyre Jr. (Laurie), CiCi Lapeyre Weinmann (Giffen), and Elise Lapeyre Merlin (Max). He was the devoted grandfather of Pierre Fernand Lapeyre III, Jacqueline Lapeyre Caplan, Margaret Mills Weinmann, Kathryn Fenner Weinmann, Laura Weinmann Fogler, Miles Claiborne Merlin, and Isabelle Fenner Merlin as well as the proud great-grandfather of Lincoln James Fogler. Pierre graduated from Georgetown Prep and received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from St. Louis University. He began his career working in Kansas on the NASA space program before returning to New Orleans. He served as a trust officer at Hibernia National Bank for 39 years prior to retirement. Retirement did not last long as he joined the trust department of Whitney National Bank, where he worked for an additional 10 years. Family, friends, and his Catholic faith were the center of his life. His extensive work with the New Orleans Archdiocese was particularly meaningful to him. He was also passionate about education, devoting much of his philanthropic time to The Edward G. Schlieder Educational Foundation for 25 years, the Oscar Lee Putnam Foundation, and the Louise S. McGehee School. Pierre's favorite pastime was playing gin rummy at the Pickwick Club with his friends. When he wasn't busy trying to win money at cards, he was folding it into unique origami – birds, elephants, and even peacocks were in his extensive repertoire, much to the delight of his grandchildren. On Tuesday, May 23, 2023 a visitation will take place at 11:30 am followed by a Memorial Mass at 12:00 noon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Road, Metairie, Louisiana 70005.
