Phillip David Mollère, a native and life-long resident of New Orleans, was born on December 18, 1944, and passed away on July 17th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Anthony Mollère and Ruth Inez Catherine Hall Wainright Mollère. He is survived by his daughter Margaret Simone Mollère Burke (Curran Millikan Burke), his son Edgar Alexandre Mollère (Erin Alexander Mollère), his son Oliver Sosthène Beacham Mollère, MD (Kate Minor Brown Mollère, MD); his grandchildren Georgia Millikan Burke, Ella Beacham Burke, Marguerite Eustis Mollère, and William Alexandre Beacham Mollère; his beloved friend and neighbor Linda Bizzarro, his former wife and friend Barbara Beacham Mollère, as well as numerous cousins, both in the United States and France.
Phillip was educated in the New Orleans public school system and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1962. After his graduation from Washington & Lee University, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, he earned a Doctorate in chemistry from Louisiana State University. Following research positions at the Goethe University in Germany and Cornell University, he returned to New Orleans in 1975 to work at Freeport-McMoRan as a research chemist, rising to the position of Director of Technology Development. He later joined Crescent Technology Inc. as a Project Manager and Senior Environmental Specialist. His education and work experiences afforded him some of his closest and most enduring friendships.
Phillip was active in the New Orleans community and served as President of George Washington Chapter, SAR; New Orleans Chapter of Sigma Chi Alumni; Belle Chasse Rotary Club; France-Amérique de la Louisiane and Les Causeries du Lundi. He also served on the Board of the Council of French Societies of New Orleans and the Aurora Methodist Church Pre-School. He was a member of The Round Table Club, Alliance-Française, Schlaraffia, and several carnival organizations. He was fortunate to enjoy many ongoing close friendships, some dating back to grammar school.
He enjoyed traveling abroad and was privileged to travel all over the world for both work and pleasure. Some of his fondest memories were of visits to his ancestral home, La Molère [sic], in southwestern France, and his time spent in Germany, Russia, Ukraine, and Indonesia. He also enjoyed fishing, cooking, reading and writing poetry, live music of all sorts, dancing and spending time with his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as Phuzzy.
There will be a private graveside service. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at 2635 DeSoto Street on July 27th, 2024 beginning at noon.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Alliance-Française of New Orleans or LearnToLiveGlobal.org
