M.L. “Peggy” Vanzandt Hepting was born on June 14 in Sylvester, Georgia; however, she was a life-long resident of New Orleans. She passed away on April 2, 2020. She studied at the University of Georgia and was employed by Delta Airlines as an Airline Stewardess prior to marriage and as a top-producing Realtor for Gertrude Gardner Real Estate of New Orleans, specializing in Old Metairie Real Estate. She was either a founder, board member, or committee member including holding memberships with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the New Orleans Ballet, the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra, NOMA, The New Orleans Opera Guild, The New Orleans Spring Fiesta, and others too numerous to list. Additionally, She founded Delta Airlines Passenger Service Department and the Clipped Wings Association of former Airline Stewardesses as well as the original founder of the Ladies Leukemia League and others too numerous to list. She was honored to receive the Keys to the City of New Orleans numerous times.
She is preceded in death by: her husband, Floyd John Kirain Hepting; her son, David Floyd Evan Hepting; her sister, Nina Simerly; her brother, Virgil Vanzandt; and her parents, Mr. Foy and Mrs. Eunice Vanzandt.
Peggy is survived by: her daughter, Susan Rebecca Hepting Cox; her brother, Lieutenant Colonel James Vanzandt; her two granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; her niece, Mrs. Caroline Jeanette Pearson; her great-grandchild, Ms. Nicollette Paige Stoma; and too many close friends to list.
Her passions were gardening, reading, tennis, and was an accomplished sailor and water skier.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and above all, a devoted and blessed Christian. She dedicated her life to raising her children, cherishing her many friendships, performing charity work, and her real estate career. She was truly blessed throughout her life by living faithfully in the light of Jesus Christ. She will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, June 14, 2021, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, at 10:45 A.M, followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel of the funeral home at 11:00 A.M with Father Rob Courtney officiating. Details for the reception will be announced at the end of the service. Please adhere to all social distancing guidelines.
