Patricia “Patty” Mount, surrounded by her loving family, leapt joyfully into Jesus’ arms into Heaven on December 13, 2024. Patty was a beautiful, intelligent, fun and graceful person with a caring, sweet, supportive and positive spirit. In her over 98 years on Earth, she taught both family and friends, by her daily living, how to live a positive life grounded in the values of faith, family and caring for others.
Patty, the oldest of four children, grew up in Metairie and attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School and Mount Carmel Academy. She also spent time during her childhood on River Road in Convent, Louisiana with her family learning how to play the piano, make pralines and speak a little French. She graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans with a Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in English and Philosophy. Following graduation, she worked as a legal secretary and customer service representative in New Orleans. She traveled with her sisters and friends, bowled and enjoyed living in her first apartment in New Orleans. She met and married the love of her life, the late Walter E. Mount, Jr., in 1959. Patty and Walter raised four children together and were very involved in the lives of their grandchildren. She baked cakes, sewed clothes, wiped tears away, attended games, matches and recitals, ran carpool, gave hugs, and planned simple but wonderful home celebrations and vacations. After her children were raised, she worked as an office manager for a medical equipment firm in Metairie.
Patty was stronger than she ever knew, taking care of all of her family during the most beautiful and challenging moments in life. She was very industrious and a self -starter, willing to research and teach herself new things. She loved her bridge group – lifelong friends - who she and Walter socialized and traveled with. She and Walter were members of St. Angela Merici Parish for their entire lives together where she volunteered in many ministries including as a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion to the homebound, receiving the Medallion of St. Louis from the Archdiocese of New Orleans in 2018. She and Walter served as mentors in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) process. She invested and deeply believed in her faith and her parish community.
Patty loved being with family and friends and loved a party including the ToMoPoJo family reunions. She enjoyed walking, including training for the Crescent City Classic, yoga, gardening, and reading the paper including knocking out the toughest crossword puzzle. She loved helping her children, grandchildren and others and enjoyed the simple beautiful moments that many let pass by. She was a truly special person in the most humble and beautiful way.
Patty was the daughter of the late Aaron and Emily Powell and is survived by her children, David Mount (Kathy), Greg Mount (Stephanie), Nancy North (Ronnie) and Alyson Mount-Wenzel (Harrison); her grandchildren, Patrick Mount (Paige), Stephen Mount, Austin North, Evan North, Blaine Perkins, Ryan Mount, Ethan Mount, Cole Wenzel, Lindsey Wenzel, Gracie Wenzel; and great-grandchildren, Eleanor Mount and Margaret Mount.
