Dee was born July 18, 1941, to the late Edward Paul Joseph Demonn and Odelia Quantin Demon. A graduate of Sacred Heart High School, she received her Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Loyola University of New Orleans; her Masters of Education, Secondary Teaching from the University of New Orleans; as well as her Master’s Plus 30.
Dee was an educator with the Jefferson Parish School system, having taught high school before entering the administrative side of the school system where she worked for 34 years. After retiring from the school system, Dee continued working with students and teachers in various roles including student tutor, teacher trainer, teacher evaluator and program evaluator with Jefferson Parish School System, Orleans Parish School System and LA Department of Education.
Upon her permanent retirement, she started a new career as a doting grandmother and world traveler. Dee loved travelling with her family going on many family vacations, taking cruises whenever and wherever she could. Dee was also an enthusiastic fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Tulane Baseball teams. She loved traveling to Spring Training and attending games and traveling with Tulane Baseball.
Dee loved spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren attending any and every event in which they were involved. Dee was their biggest fan and there are too many activities to list, although she was especially fond of her time with the Jesuit High School Phileletic Society where she was affectionately known as “Grandma Dee” and received her Jesuit letter in Prop collection, grand mothering, sewing costumes and singing. She enjoyed it so much, she continued with the Phil’s for several years after her grandson’s graduation from Jesuit. She also thoroughly enjoyed watching her granddaughter’s joy in playing sports with the Greater New Orleans Miracle League.
Dee was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Odelia Demonn, her mother and father-in-law, Ruth and James Allen, her sister-in-law, Mary Helen Allen, and great nephew, Jonathan Allen.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, George Sanford Allen, her daughter, Deborah Allen Ward (Norman), and her grandchildren, Emily Odelia Hill and John Connor Hill, all of New Orleans. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, John Robert Allen (Ann), of Midlothian, VA, and nephew, Christopher Michael Allen (Courtney), and their children, Harper and Dexter Allen, of Haymarket, VA.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial Mass in the chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11:00AM. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
