Mildred "Mickey" Bott

Mildred “Mickey” McQuinn (Glanker) Bott died quietly on April 26th, 2023, holding the hand of her eldest child, Trey. She was 89 years young. Mickey was preceded in death by her husband Frederick “Fritz” Reynolds Bott, her daughter Kylie Ann (Todd) Dodd and her 2 sons-in-law, James “Jamie” Fitzpatrick and Ralph “Al” “Owl” Dodd.

Her living children, grandchildren and great grands are James (Trey) M. Todd (Beth) and their girls, Amie Gillie (Ben) – with sons Luca and Beau - and Alex Sheffield (Stuart) with their daughter Sophie; Michelle Mc “Quinn” Fitzpatrick and sons, James “Kemper” (Kristen) - with son Llewyn – and Hayden Timmins; Thomas “Kemper” Todd (Terry Jo) and their son Kemper Thomas and daughter Kaley Jo; stepdaughter Lucille Hester (Col. Steve Hester) and sons John Frederick and George; and stepson George R. Bott (Lauren) and daughters Chloe and Gracie and son Fritz.

Mickey was born in Alexandria Louisiana on July 18th, 1933, youngest daughter of Eugene T. and Harriet M. Glankler, sibling to Gene, Vivian and Darrell Paul. As a young teen and young adult, she shined academically, socially and athletically. She pestered her older siblings but loved them fiercely and took her baby brother Darrell under her protective wing. She was always the belle of the ball and the apple of her father’s eye; she was the precious child who needed and received much love and attention.

Mickey married James M. Todd in August 1956 and they had four children, James M. (Trey), Michelle M. (Quinn), Kylie A., and Thomas “Kemper” before divorcing. Mickey later found the perfect life partner, friend, sidekick and saint in Frederick “Fritz” Reynolds Bott who adored her for her vivaciousness and embraced all of her ambitious whims and fancies. They married in Aspen, 1975, and the family happily embraced two more children, Lucille and George, into the mix.

Mickey and Fritz were avid and talented Bridge players, determined snow skiers, competitive tennis partners, and over-the-top motorcycle enthusiasts. Watching them don their helmets and swing a leg over those huge bikes was nerve-wracking to the rest of the family, but heaven to them. Many cross-country adventures were had over the years and the motor bikes enhanced their lives considerably. The bikes symbolized the spirited love of life rooted in Mickey who serendipitously found a most zealous partner in Fritz.

Mickey’s most treasured gift to herself and others was her love and connection to all children in her life. Her uncanny ability to reach into each child’s heart was carried out by her many years (over 30) of directing children’s summer theater productions, both in Aspen and later in Crested Butte, Colorado. Crested Butte became a beloved second home to Mickey, Fritz and family and she made the yearly summer trip there every year including last summer where she could not walk down the street without being hailed by the many people in Crested Butte who knew and loved her. Mickey liked to claim all credit for any family that stayed in Colorado, or married a Coloradan, saying she would have lived there if it were at all possible. Colorado was in her soul.

As a therapist, Mickey found ways to reach children and adults that were unprecedented in her day. Her creativity had no limits, and her determination was rock solid. She was undeterred by people, rules or regulations that might inhibit her helping a patient improve. In short, her only care was to reach each person and have their lives be better. She was passionate about this role in her life.

When husband Fritz and daughter Kylie died within years of each other, Mickey found her other “love of life” in adopting Kylie’s precious Chihuahua the “Dude”. They were constant companions, provided each other daily entertainment and the Dude was her lifeline to another happy place.

Mickey’s presence will be sorely missed but her spirit will prevail as her personality did throughout her very fulfilled life.

A visitation for Mickey will be held Monday, May 8, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM, and interment thereafter at Metairie Cemetery.
