Matthew (Matt) Thompson Palmer, age 30, joined his fellow angels in heaven on Monday, November 22, 2021. Matt was born in Houston, Texas, on Friday, September 13, 1991. If you had the honor of knowing Matt, then you undeniably loved Matt. His contagious smile and boisterous laugh filled the room and could lift anyone’s spirit. In his short 30 years on earth, he created a lifetime of impact with his vibrant soul. Matt’s strong faith and compassion was a bright light for so many. He loved people and dedicated his time on earth to making everyone he touched feel special and loved.
Matt attended West University Elementary, Pershing Middle School and Lamar High School. From a young age, he had a strong work ethic and values which made him dedicated to every task he took on. With great pride and dedication, he was a 5th grade safety patrol, a Cub Scout and an acolyte at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He played West U Little League baseball and SFL football and was a bat boy for the Houston Astros. While attending college at LSU, he took on leadership roles within the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was often referred to as “Uncle Matt” because of his natural ability to lead, and he became a role model for many of his young Sigma Chi brothers. Matt was always quick to listen and provide unwavering advice. During his final semester at LSU, Matt met the love of his life, Annie Krasnow. His happiest day was the day they were married. He was a loving, caring and devoted husband. After graduating from LSU with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the EJ Ourso College of Business, Matt found his calling in a career as a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser at The McEnery Company in New Orleans, a city he embraced as his new home. Matt had a passion for learning and quickly grasped the inner workings of the real estate market. He had a natural ability that elevated him to the top of the pack in his professional setting.
As a young adult, Matt continued a life of service to others and dedicated his life to serving and helping young children in need of guidance. Matt’s true passion was helping young people afflicted with trauma. He was a Big Buddy in Houston and became involved in the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) in New Orleans. Matt enjoyed fishing with his dad, cooking and indulging in the culture of New Orleans, home improvement projects, listening to jazz, playing tennis, long walks with Annie and their dog, Gayle, and enjoying the rich history and beauty of the Mississippi River.
Matt was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul Palmer (Gampy), Lonnie Palmer (Mere) and Joyce Thompson (Grandma). He is survived by his loving wife of 3 ½ years, Teresa Ann (Annie) Krasnow Palmer; his parents, Michael Alan Palmer and Tamyra Thompson Palmer; his sister, Anne (Annie) McLin Palmer; his grandfather, Tom Thompson; his mother-in-law, Loretta Krentel Krasnow; his father-in-law, Gary Neil Krasnow; and his brother-in-law, Jacob Paine Krasnow.
