Mary Angela Cole, “Angie” passed away on February 1, 2021, at the age of 91. She was born and raised in Charleston, S.C., on May 4, 1929. She graduated from Bishop England High School and received a degree in nursing from St. Frances Xavier Nursing School. While in nursing school, she met a handsome Citadel cadet who was destined to become her loving husband, Tony. They moved their family to Metairie, LA in 1965 when Tony worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers until his death in 1983. Angie worked as a registered nurse at East Jefferson General Hospital before retiring in 1994. She loved working in her garden which was always in bloom from her constant care and thrived under her amazing green thumb. She enjoyed sharing her gardening tips and spending time with her friends and the Rambling Rose Garden Club. One of her fondest pastimes was shopping with her sister, Margie, and she would become so engrossed that she was once actually locked into a D.H. Holmes department store! She loved people and was the perfect hostess at her many parties. A charitable and kind lady, she volunteered at Meals on Wheels delivering food to the elderly. She was also very active with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Salvation Army for many years. A devoted Catholic, she was a parishioner of St. Philip Neri for over 50 years. She belonged to the local chapter of AARP and enjoyed participating in its many activities. She loved dressing up and going to lunch at New Orleans’s many white linen restaurants. Commander’s Palace was her favorite and the family spent many birthdays there with her.
She is preceded in death by: her loving husband of over 32 years, Anthony Charles Cole; and her parents, the late Marguerite and Sam Harvey. She is survived by: her daughters, Mary Darlene Ward and Angela Julian; her sons, Anthony Cole, Jr. (Peggy), Sam Cole (Cheryl), and Michael Cole; her sister, Marguerite Sirisky; her grandchildren, Michael Regan, Jr. (Jennifer), Melisa Byers (Bill), Matthew Regan, Dawn Jones (Andrew), Christie Smith (Jason), Anthony Cole, III (Alison), Amy Cheek (Jason), Casi Cole (Zachary), Brandon Cole, and Dominick Cole; her great-grandchildren, Sam and Nina Regan, George Byers, Quinn Plummer, Sadie, Alexis and Katie Smith, Andrew and Harper Cole, Lucy and Caroline Cheek, Zachary and Eleanor Jacobs, and Asher and Charlotte Burst; numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family.
