Mark James Perret passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at the age of 65. Mark was born in New Orleans, LA to Dr. William Joseph Perret, Sr. and Verna Marie Cook Perret on June 14, 1957. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Susan Harrold Perret, and their daughter, Genevieve Perret (fiancé, Thomas Barnett, Jr.); his stepsons, Dr. Brian Williams (Steffanie) and Timothy Harrold (Katrina); his grandchildren Kara, Eli, Gigi, Alek, and Theo; his father, Dr. William Perret, Sr., and stepmother, Joan Rodehorst Perret; seven of his siblings, William Perret, Jr. (Kathy), Marie Perret (Rudy Cerone), Martha Perret Socha (Robert), Stephen Perret (Lara Grice), Matthew Perret (Arlene), Andrew Perret (Kim), and Gregory Perret (Lorena); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Verna Perret, brother, David Perret (Dana), and sister Sally Perret DeMatteo (Henry).
The second of ten children, Mark grew up in a full house in Uptown New Orleans. He was part of the 1975 graduating class at De La Salle High School. He then attended the University of New Orleans before taking on work briefly in the film industry, Martin Wine Cellar, and finally Bunny Bread, where he worked for the last 19 years. Mark was a hardworking husband and father and loved by so many. His exuberant energy was contagious, and the joy that radiated from him when he made another person laugh is just one of the many things that will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Mark enjoyed fishing and golf. He developed a love of history and music very early in his life and leaped to any opportunity of sharing his knowledge of both with others. On game days, he could often be found at what has been deemed “Mark’s Spot” at his brother-in-law and late sister Sally’s backyard known to many as the “Who Dat Hut.” He had great reverence for the Catholic faith and for many years Mark attended retreat at Manresa during Holy Week with his father, brother Stephen, and brother-in-law Rudy. He cherished his time spent at Manresa and always looked forward to going back. He will be sorely missed, and the memories of him will be cherished forever. As his father would affectionately say, “That Markie! He’s a fine young man!”
Service will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemetery on November 15 with visitation from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Mass to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mark’s memory either to The American Heart Association or to Manresa House of Retreats, Convent, LA.
