Marie Caserta Giorlando, 94, passed away on September 28, 2024, in the comfort of her home. Predeceased by her beloved husband, A.J. Giorlando, M.D. of 70 years. Mother of Joanna M. Giorlando, Dr. Paul J. Giorlando (Mary), Joseph A. Giorlando, Dr. Michael F. Giorlando, Maria G. Pellerin (Curtis), Angele “Beanie” G. Davis, Felice G. Stokes (Denis), grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, sister of Lorraine Rabito and Salvatore Caserta. She is preceded in death by her parents, Felix Caserta and Anna Bilognia Caserta, sister, Rose Rabito, grandson, Hugh J. Davis, III, and daughter-in-law, Judith W. Giorlando.
Marie was born on October 23, 1929, in New Orleans. She graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican College.
In 1961, Marie was instrumental in starting The Father Francis Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R. Cause to sainthood. She became a blesser for the Blessed Father Seelos Cause. Marie had a special gift of prayer to those who needed healing and comfort. In 2009, she received the Blessed Fr. Seelos Volunteer of the Year Award, along with A.J.
Marie was a member of the LSU Wives Auxiliary Medical Society and was a charter member of the Suburban Women’s Club of St. Bernard. She was honored by Archbishop Hannan for her work with the Cambodian refugees in New Orleans. Marie volunteered under the direction of Fr. Emile Lafranz at the Center of Jesus the Lord serving the homeless. In 1986, she was inducted as a member of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. For many years, Marie was an active member of St. Dominic Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, St. Pius X women’s prayer group, and the Academy of the Sacred Heart Children of Mary. She volunteered as a retreat master for St. Joseph Abbey women’s weekend retreat. Marie coordinated the Eucharistic Rosary Congress of St. Dominic Parish and was a Eucharistic minister for the homebound.
Marie was a devout Catholic who had a deep devotion to Our Lady, The Most Blessed Mother. She will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her humility, compassion, kindness, and love.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, LA, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Lake Lawn Funeral Home beginning at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in All Saints Mausoleum at Metairie Cemetery.
