Maedell Hoover Braud

Maedell Hoover Braud, born October 21, 1928, was the daughter of the late Mary Ella Elizabeth Coleman Hoover and the late Joseph Wilfred Hoover, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the age of 88 at home surrounded by devoted family and friends. Beloved wife of the late Sidney Francis Braud, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Vera Ines' Cervantes. Maedell was the cherished cousin of Dolores Colomes Lemoine (deceased), Rhea Vignes McCarthy, Shannon Elizabeth McCarthy and Aubry McCarthy Bryant. She claimed she was related "by love" and lovingly called "Nan" by David Arthur Troendle (Jean), George Roger Troendle, Jr., DDS (Karen), MaryAnne Troendle Gilthorpe (Timothy), Catherine Troendle Fitzmorris, MD (Stephen), Sr. Marianna Troendle, FSGM, Elizabeth M. Troendle, DDS, Jane Troendle Atkins, M. (Robert), Lawrence Lucian Troendle (Kim), Robert Gerard Troendle (Susana), Teresa Troendle Burke (Murphy) and John Brady Troendle (Lisa).They are the children of her very dear lifelong friend, Mary Labry Troendle (deceased). Maedell was bestowed the honor of godmother to David A. Troendle, Deborah L. Allen, Teresa T. Burke, Charlotte A. Vicens, and the late Raymond A. Vignes. Maedell spent her entire career working for Loyola University until her retirement in 1980, with the final title of Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Arts and Sciences. In 1971, Loyola honored her many years of dedicated service and awarded her an Honorary Master of Education in Administration. Her passion for Loyola University continued into her retirement years. In recognition of her generous support over the years of Loyola and its capital campaigns, she as inducted into the Lifetime Giving Society of St. Ignatius. The donation of the three rooms in the new Monroe Library honoring her beloved parents was her most cherished gift. Her philanthropy benefited numerous Jesuit institutions, including the Jesuit Novitiate in Grand Coteau, Jesuit Province and Historic New Orleans Collection. She also supported St. Vincent de Paul Guild and Leukemia League. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, Maedell was a devout parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She enjoyed entertaining and dining at The Southern Yacht Club, where she celebrated her 85th birthday with family and friends and, at her request, was entertained by the 610 Stompers. A long-time member of the Krewe of Iris, she was also a member of Lakeshore Women’s Club and Lakeshore Garden Club. Maedell's fun loving nature is best summed up in her all too familiar greeting: "I am so glad you got to see me!" Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. Maedell’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation and a very special thank you to Bruce and Mary Johnson for their generous loving help with her final care. We would also like to thank the Hospice Associates, Dr. Ricardo Febry and the Visiting Angels for the compassionate care Maedell received.
