Madeline Wellborn Wagner was born on Valentine’s day in 1933 and passed away peacefully on December 3rd, 2015 at the age of 82 years old. She was born in Texarkana, Arkansas and has lived in New Orleans since 1950 where she graduated from Mc Main High School and later attended LSU. Mrs. Wagner was the wife Richard Morse Wagner for 62 years and daughter of the former Charles Barton Wellborn II and Mary Lou Sharpe Wellborn. Madeline was the mother of the late Richard Mark Wagner, his wife Marguerite Rachal “Peggy” Wagner, daughter Carrie Elizabeth Wagner-Lowther-Kruchell, son Charles Barton Wagner and his wife Michelle Elizabeth Hagel Wagner, son Dr. John Barclay Wagner and the mother of his children Suzanne Bily Wagner. She was the sister of John Marion Wellborn, Mary Lou Purnell and the late Charles Barton Wellborn III. Mrs. Wagner was the grandmother of Richard Myles Wagner, Thomas Sullivan Wagner, Jessica Lowther Skipper, James Barton Lowther, Allison Chance Kruchell, Charles Hunter Wagner, Alexandra Blanchard Wagner, John Barclay Wagner II, Olivia Claire Wagner and Liam Edward Wagner. Great grandmother of Cameron Bradly-Wagner and James Dean Skipper.
Madeline was a long-time member and past President of the Shady Oaks Garden Club, Republican Women’s Club, Delta Gamma Sorority and Parkway Presbyterian Church. She was also very involved in both Girl Scouts USA and Boy Scouts USA while her children were in school.
Mrs. Wagner was retired from the March of Dimes where she served as Event Coordinator for fund raising that included the Annual Gourmet Gala.
Services will be held on Saturday the 12th, 2015 11:00 am at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 6200 Camphor Street Metairie, La. 70003 with a small service and burial following on Sunday the 13th, 2015 1:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church and associated Live Oak Cemetery, 125 Church Ave. Pass Christian, MS 39571. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to Parkway Presbyterian Church.
Madeline, or “Maddy” as referred to by her dearest friends will be missed by her family and many devoted friends. Many thanks and appreciation to St Joseph’s Nursing Home, St Catherine’s Hospice and especially her roommate and dear friend, Doris Modica, who the family counted on these past few months.
