On the 24th day of November, 2017, Lonnie Brown Hartman Peacefully departed this life just one day before her 92nd birthday She was born in Abita Springs, LA., the third of four children born to Johnnie Alton & Hilda Abney Brown. She moved to New Orleans at the age of fifteen and it became her home for life. Lonnie always worked in sales. She loved helping her customers find that special item and was good at it. She often said, "I've never met a stranger; I guess it's because I just love people." It was love and first sight when she met Joe ('Boo') Hartman, and they had a long and happy marriage. As a young person Lonnie loved to dance and have a good time. She won several local jitterbug contests. She was a wonderful cook and loved to entertain. No one ever left her house hungry. Her family will for generations refer to her recipes. She often said, "You wanna taste something good? Try this!" How do you encapsulate a life so full of joy, laughter and generosity in this small space? It is impossible. Only by recalling her very simple yet extraordinary life can we hope to pass on the spirit of Lonnie Hartman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Yvan Hartman, and her only child, Gary Joseph Hartmann. Her sister, Ethel Marie Brown Kelly; her brother, Leo Alton Brown, and her parents. Lonnie is survived by her younger sister, Jean Brown Wicker; grandchildren, Lyles Alton Hartmann; Stacey Hartmann Sanders & daughter in law, Suzanne Scott Hartmann. Great-grandchildren, Gary Charles Hartmann , Mason Ivy Hartmann and Joseph Aaron Sanders. Lonnie is also survived by her nieces: Patricia Kelly Matthews, Kathleen Kelly Lampo, Debbie Wicker Denstorff and Terri Wild. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews in both the Hartmann and Kelly families. The family would like to thank Julio and Zorina Lucas, who were beloved friends; their love for her was constant. They made time to check on Lonnie twice a day for decades. Services are being arranged by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and will be held at a later date. She will be interred next to her husband in the Abita Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it was her wish that a donation be made to a local food pantry to honor her memory. She always had a special place in her heart for the needy.
