Leon A. Gubala, Jr. passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 21, 2016 after a valiant fight against cancer. Lee was born August 15, 1944 and raised in Buffalo, N.Y. Joining the military right after high school, he served his country by fighting in Viet Nam with the U.S. Air Force. Following seven years service to his country, he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Maryland University and was ABD from the University of New Orleans in Political Science. He had many talents, as he worked as a commercial fisherman, an advertising salesman, an investment broker and finally found his true calling as a Special Education teacher. As a man who loved nature, he was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved fishing with his wife and friends. He was a Master Gardener, always willing to share his knowledge, and a true lover of animals, especially his pets. Having traveled extensively to the Far East, Central and South America, he enjoyed meeting people in foreign lands and experiencing new cultures. Lee is survived by his loving wife, Mary Mysing-Gubala, his daughter Loree Sichelstiel, his grandchildren Madyson, Makenzie and Mason Sichelstiel, his sister Barbara Gubala, brother Peter Gubala (Sandy), sisters-in-law Sally Seaman and Anne Lott (Alan), brother-in-law Karl Mysing (Karen) and an army of thoughtful and loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 28 from 9-11am at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, service at 11am and a graveside service to follow at the Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in honor of Lee to the Louisiana S.P.C.A.
