Joseph Herman Simpson, Jr., age 94 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at his home in Lafayette, LA. Beloved husband of the late Leonora Serio Simpson of 68 years.. Loving father of Daniel J. Simpson, Sr. (Anna), Joey Ann Simpson and the late Joseph H. Simpson, III. Son of the late Joseph Herman Simpson, Sr. and Harriet Ohler Simpson. Brother of Herbert Simpson (Audrey) and Patricia Weir (the late Bruce). Grandfather of Daniel J. Simpson, Jr. (Tonya), Amy Simpson Fusilier and Valerie Simpson Boulmay (Gardner). Great grandfather of Nathaniel, Maxwell, and Jules Simpson, Alia and Grant Fusilier, and Henry, Zachary and Lilly Boulmay. Also survived by niece and godchild Paulette and nephew Paul; great-nieces and nephew Tristan, Cooper and Camryn; godchild Sharon Patterson as well as a host of loving relatives. A native of New Orleans, LA, a resident of St. Bernard Parish for 48 years, and a resident of Lafayette, LA for the past 10 years. Mr. Simpson was a former parishioner of St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church in Arabi, LA and most recently a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Simpson served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 42 years. Mr. Simpson will be fondly remembered as an avid LSU fan. The family would like to thank the staff of Heart of Hospice of Lafayette, LA for their care and compassion throughout this time. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Monday, July 25, 2016 at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
