Joseph “Joe” Schwartz passed away on Friday, July 24th at the age of 75. He is survived by his daughter Joann (David) Haydel, and his two granddaughters Katherine and Caroline Haydel. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years Ann Eastin Schwartz, his parents Joseph O. Schwartz Jr. and Alma Meral Schwartz, his sisters Barbara Bagley and Alma Hammett, and his brothers Donald Hammett, Harry Hammett, Robert Hammett, and John Hammett.
Joe was a proud graduate of Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA. He attended the University of New Orleans where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. He was an investment banker in the city of New Orleans for many years. He started his career at Scharff & Jones, Inc and worked for several other firms throughout the city. Later in life, Joe became a teacher and taught at St. Pius X School in New Orleans and St. Matthew the Apostle School in River Ridge.
Joe was an early member and former president of the Over the Mountain Athletic Club (OTMAC) participating in softball, football, basketball, and golf. He was also an amateur astronomer and photographer. Joe loved the outdoors. He enjoyed being on the water and fishing at his camp in Cocodrie, LA. He enjoyed many ski trips and trips to the Florida Keys. He loved to spend time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
Joe’s family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the caregivers, nurses, aides, and administration of Nouveau Marc Senior Living Community, Nancy’s Private Care, and Fresenius Kidney Care. Services will be held on Friday August 6th 2021 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm. Following the visitation, family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at 12pm presided by Rev. Father Peter Hammett, O.S.B of St. Joseph Abbey in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. A graveside ceremony in Metairie Cemetery will follow.
