He was the beloved husband for sixty-six years to the love of his life, Frances Campisi Burckel. Joe was the proud father of five children, Joseph (Pam), Daryl (Mary), Wayne (Janet), Lori, and Brad (Christi). He is also survived by his sister, Helen Armond; eleven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph; son-in-law, Randy Gervais; granddaughter, Laura Peterson; and two siblings, Catherine Anderson and Althea Kennedy.
A life-long New Orleans native, Joe was born to Edwina Zagamie and Joseph Burckel in 1932. He graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School in 1950, and after graduation joined the United States Army. He served as a staff sergeant in the Field Artillery and was stationed in the United States and Germany. He later worked for the American Can Company and with his son, Wayne, in his vending business.
As a young man, Joe was an avid softball player and playground coach for his children’s recreation teams. His greatest joy was his family and his life-long loving relationship with his beloved wife. He provided a great home environment, discipline, values and a living faith in which to raise his family. We are forever grateful for his godly life and example.
The family is thankful for the compassionate care given by Sonya Badon.
