John C. Thomas, Jr.

On March 4th, 2021, John Charles Thomas, Jr., passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord beside his beloved wife and surrounded by his children. He was preceded in death by his father, John Charles Thomas, Sr., his mother, Anna Maringo Thomas, and his sister, Shirley (Roy) Thomas Schiro. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Susan, his children Eric (Dianne), Sheila (Michael) Condon, Michele (John) Franz, Patricia (Steven) Doell, and Brian (Ann Marie) Thomas, as well as his grandchildren Matthew, Kristen (Ross), and Katelyn Thomas, William (Ashley) Condon, Amanda and Timothy Doell, Madeline and Marissa Franz, Alex, Jenna, Connor, and Cara Thomas, and great-grandchildren Hadley and Colt Condon.

John was born on December 22nd, 1939, in New Orleans, LA. He was a lifelong proud alumnus of Jesuit High School of New Orleans and graduated in the Class of ’57. After working much of his life at Fidelity & Deposit Company as a bond underwriter, John retired in 1999. He was a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalen for 25 years followed by 25 years as a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor. John was known for his dry sense of humor as well as his goofy and gentle nature. One of his greatest joys was to make his family laugh. A lifelong and devout Catholic, he had no shortage of love for the Lord, which he embodied in his bottomless love for his family. He loved to spend his time traveling the world with his sweetheart, photographing her garden, playing tennis, and taking his dog Piper on walks through the neighborhood. He adored sharing quality time and playing with his many grandchildren including activities such as going to the beach or Disney World, singing in the car, berry picking, fishing, and visiting Lafreniere Park. He was also known for his love of sweets … and sneaking them to his grandchildren at any given opportunity.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2021 from 11:00 am – 12:00 noon at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 6425 West Metairie Avenue, Metairie, Louisiana followed by mass at 12:00, with burial to follow in All Saints Mausoleum.

Pallbearers are Eric Thomas, Brian Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Alex Thomas, Timothy Doell, and Connor Thomas. Honorary pallbearers are Steven Doell, Michael Condon, John Franz, William Condon, and Ross Nauck.
