Joe Sumrall, Jr., passed away in Bay St. Louis, MS on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Betty Jean Schneider Sumrall for 55 years. Son of the late Joe Sumrall, Sr. and Rose Suddoth Sumrall. Loving father of Michelle Brister Rink and Stephen Sumrall. Brother of the late Rosemary Sumrall. Grandfather of Ryan and Ross Brister, Kaitlyn and Alex Sumrall, and Chris and Zack Green. He is also predeceased by his Aunt Margaret and Uncle James Sumrall.
Born December 29, 1938 in Waynesboro, MS, Joe attended college at the University of New Orleans. He went on to become the Vice President of Human Resources for National Canal Villere for 30 years. After retiring, he became the co-owner and operator of the Big Easy and Corner Pocket Sports Bar.
A Methodist by birth, he married the love of his life on September 24, 1961 at the Gentilly Methodist Church in New Orleans. Joe was a member of the Hancock Amusement Pool League, and served his country in the Army National Guard from 1961-1967.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. until service time.
