Joe S. Castle, veteran of the U.S. Air Force, passed away at the age of 91 on August 15, 2021. He was born on April 11, 1930 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He retired as a Captain of the New Orleans Fire Department and had been a longtime parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post №. 307 and the New Orleans Retired Fire Fighters association. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and loved dogs. He is preceded in death by: his spouse of 57 years, Beverly Bordelon Castle; his parents, Sanford Samuel Castle and Thelma Bidwell Castle; his daughter, Diane Castle; his sisters, Betty C. Stanley, Myrtle Ann Rupert, Mary Susan Van Voorhis, and Nancy Dempsey; and his brother, Frank D. Castle. He is survived by: his sons, Daniel Joseph Castle (Marilyn) and David Samuel Castle (Robin); his brother, David A. Castle; his godchild, Susan Dempsey Anderson; his grandchildren, Joseph Castle (Melanie), Musette C. Yochim (David), Anthony Giovingo (Chelsea), Melissa G. Rodgers (Jay), Hunter Castle, and Caroline Castle; and his great-grandchildren, Collin, Blake, Brooklyn, Maddox, Jett, Avery, Rock, and Harper.
The family would like to give special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice, the New Orleans Fire Department, and the American Legion.
The visitation will take place at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Friday, August 20, 2021 at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church, 631 State St. New Orleans, LA 70118 at 11:00 a.m. with a Mass to follow 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations made to St. Francis of Assisi Church in Joe’s honor at 631 State St, New Orleans, LA 70118.
