Joan Candebat Gettys

Heaven gained a new angel when Joan Candebat Gettys met her eternal Father on Sunday, October 16, 2016. She was 79 years old. Beloved mother of Debra Angle, Bonnie Van Deventer, Terrie Bilinski (Stephen), and Jack Anthony Gettys, Jr. (Kim). Sister of Reineann Blouin, Richard Candebat, George Candebat (Henny), Jimmy Candebat, and the late Dominick Candebat, Jr., Wilbur Candebat, Robert Candebat, and Willa Mae Finnin. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Daigle, and her second husband, Jack Gettys, Sr., and her parents, Dominick and Anna Candebat.

Joan was born and raised in the French Quarter. She raised her family in Kenner, and retired in Covington. She devoted 25 years in management for Eckerd Drugs, and retired in 2004. Joan was a devout Christian, and a strong, selfless matriarch, who loved her family dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
