James Daniel Kennedy, Jr. (Jim) passed away at his home on May 1, 2010 at the age of 66. Jim’s adventure began in 1944 in San Antonio, TX. He grew up in an Irish-Catholic family that included his parents, James and Rosemary, and siblings Katherine, Robert, Maxine and a half-brother Steve. At 17 he joined the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country for four years during the Vietnam War era. After serving in the military, Jim moved to Houston, TX and began a career in banking that lasted more than 20 years. During that time, he became the president of several local bank branches.
In 1991, Ron Pugh offered Jim an opportunity that changed the course of his future - he moved his family to New Orleans, LA so he could become the general manager for Roofing Supply Inc. New Orleans (now Roofing Supply Group). After several years, he was promoted to Vice President and Southwest Region Manager in 2006.
Jim was a devoted husband and partner to Dorothy Luker Kennedy (Dottie) for 25 wonderful years. He was a loving father to Nicole and James D. Kennedy III; step-father to Marnie Bucklew and husband Greg, and Brandon Cobb and wife Kelly. He was also the proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Lloyd, Sarah, and Emily Bucklew and Caroline Cobb. Jim was also honored to be a brother-in-law to Jackie and Marty Fluke.
Jim was a self-made business man who relished spending time with his family and friends. He never met a stranger and was blessed to have many friends in many cities. He worked hard, but also took time to enjoy his life. He loved to travel, play golf, and watched sports of all kinds, especially enjoying the New Orleans Saints and the LSU Tigers. He also appreciated discovering new restaurants and sharing a bottle of wine with his family and friends. Jim was a good and honorable man with a keen sense of humor who was loved by whomever he touched. He left his family and friends too soon and will be greatly missed.
